42025-09-27I bought this PHILTOP rear catalytic converter kit for my 2000 Corolla after the original one finally gave out. The price was a big factor—OEM replacements are extremely expensive for a car this old, so this was a much more affordable option.The good: the stainless steel construction feels solid, and once installed the car immediately ran smoother with better exhaust flow compared to the clogged factory cat. It’s marketed as a direct-fit part, and for the most part it bolted up correctly. I didn’t need to do major modifications, which saved time.That said, a few things to be aware of. The alignment of the flanges was slightly off, so I had to spend extra time adjusting and sealing to avoid leaks. Also, keep in mind this is EPA-compliant only, not CARB, so it won’t pass in California or states with stricter emissions rules. Longevity is still a question mark since many aftermarket converters don’t have the same precious metal content as OEM, so I don’t expect it to last as long.Overall, it’s a solid replacement if you’re in an EPA state and need a reasonably priced fix to get your Corolla or Prizm back on the road.
