The cat isn't as large as the original, so you need to purchase a kit so that you can reinstall the heat shield and bracket. That would've been nice to know ahead of time.

Gets the job done, perfect if you need a budget friendly fix up, decent value (keep in mind though that you get what you pay for), has held up decently so far, was able to have it put in without any issues, and all in all I recommend it.My only con and reason for giving it a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5 is because no where on or in the packaging do they tell you what it’s for (which could be a huge problem if you don’t use it right away or like me you order two different ones for different models at the same time they arrive at the same time and they look exactly the same) so doing that would prevent any possible confusion.

I picked up this PHILTOP 2-inch universal catalytic converter for my 2001 VW Cabrio build. I’m working on making a custom exhaust setup and I wanted to include catalytic converters so I can keep the car reasonable and avoid emissions issues during inspection here in NJ. I also do not need the car to be obnoxiously loud. Let’s be realistic, a VW Cabrio, or at least the one I’m building, does not need to be that loud to go that slow.The converter itself looks good in person. The stainless body feels solid, the welds look clean, and the heat shield is a nice feature. Looking through the inlet, the honeycomb inside looked clean and properly seated, which gave me more confidence in the part. It does not feel like a cheap empty shell or a flimsy exhaust piece.This is definitely a universal catalytic converter, not a direct bolt-on part. For my use, that is fine because I am already planning a custom exhaust. You should expect cutting, fitting, welding, adapters, or exhaust shop work depending on what you are installing it on. The 2-inch inlet and outlet size makes it useful for smaller custom exhaust setups and older vehicle repairs.I also like that it has an O2 sensor bung with a plug, which gives some flexibility depending on how you need to build the system. That is helpful when you are laying out a custom exhaust and figuring out sensor placement.Overall, this seems like a solid value for a custom exhaust or repair project. The construction looks good, the heat shield is useful, and the 2-inch size works well for the kind of small-car exhaust setup I am planning. Just make sure you check your local emissions rules and understand that this is a universal part that will require fabrication.
